Tokyo, Japan. 2016.
Everything tells you that Tokyo will be chaotic and so overwhelming for the senses that, at some point, you’ll need to take a break, to cool down, and to recalibrate.
It’s true, the major thoroughfares of the tourist imagination are exactly as you expect them to be, but a left turn, or a right, often takes you to a place of preternatural calm.
Traffic disappears, as do most of the people, and you’re struck by streetscapes rich in detail.
And then there are the cars.
Prosaic or exotic, almost all are immaculate. They look for all the world like they, along with the quiet streets they sit on, are just biding their time, waiting for the humans to return.
